The History Center has a small parking lot directly behind the building which is free for our patrons to use. The entrance is on Congress Street. It is also small, so if the parking lot is full, there is metered street parking on the street as well as a Parking Garage located at 15 E Washington St. in uptown Athens.

Right down the street you will find Casa Nueva, O’Betty’s Hot Dogs, and Zoe Fine Dining. There so many wonderful restaurants in Athens, you’re sure to find something you will love. Closest to our location is the Ohio University Inn and the Athens Central Hotel. See a full list of lodgings.
The collections department is available by appointment only. Southeast Ohio History Center is happy to assist researchers wishing to see stored artifacts and images. However, we ask that researchers make an advanced appointment so that staff has time to extract desired items and work with the researcher to properly handle fragile items. See more.
