We are in the running for “Best Building’ this year! We are so proud to be chosen as one of the Athens News “Best of” finalists for 2018. Through a lot of blood, sweat and tears, we’ve transformed the First Christian Church into your new history center. To those of you who remember our facility at 65 N. Court, you’ll remember the small space and limitations for programs, concerts and events.
We built our new space to be ADA accessible, which included building a whole new section to accommodate a large elevator as well as rebuilding restrooms with not only wheelchair accessibility, but a new family bathroom as well for those who need changing areas or to keep track of all the kids at once!
We removed walls, stabilized balconies, walls and the roof. The basement level now houses all the artifacts as well as conference rooms, offices and special collections.

The library space is now bigger and houses the new Jim and Shirley Hayes Family Genealogy Center where folks can come and search for relatives, historic information on houses and properties and so much more!
Our new “Great Hall” has enough room to enjoy musical concerts like our “Spirits and Soul” concert series, performances like the wonderful one woman play “Escape of Jane” and special events like our fabulous “Phantom of the Opera” movie with live organ accompaniment by Dennis James!
This building really does deserve an award, so please, go to the link below and vote for the Southeast Ohio History Center in the category of “Best Building.” Please forward and share this information so others can vote for us too- let’s make this the best building ever!
