The Raiders on the Ohio© campaign invites you to attend a Press Conference to announce the Athens County Story Telling Oral History Town Hall Event

The Southeast Ohio History Center, located in Athens, OH will the host the Athens Country press conference and town hall event. Athens County is the sixth of 11 Ohio story gathering oral history town hall events as part of the Raiders on the Ohio production campaign. This one-hour press event is to share the details of the Raiders on the Ohio production, meet those involved, and to encourage community support. The date of the Athens County town hall event is August 6, 2016 at 7:00 PM, also at the Southeast Ohio History Center.
The gathering of stories is phase one of Raiders on the Ohio and has three primary objectives: (1) to preserve, protect, and promote our national and state heritage, in this instance heritage refers to General John Hunt Morgan’s Great Raid of 1863, the Buffington Island Battlefield, and the John Hunt Morgan Heritage Trail, (2) to promote tourism and economic development within these participating counties and Ohio’s Appalachia region, and (3) to encourage community engagement through a series of town hall events. Phase two is the production of the forthcoming documentary. To achieve the objectives for phase one, the Buffington Island Battlefield Preservation Foundation has launched an aggressive fund-raising campaign to raise $102,000.
