The highly anticipated “Our Town Athens” documentary is now available at the Southeast Ohio History Center.
Southeast Ohio History Center board member Evan Shaw has done an amazing job of bringing the history of our town to life!
This approximately one hour documentary follows the Native people as they migrated around our area and into the period of white encroachment. Learn how the war with the British helped form this area and how settlers bought land here to start a new life. Hear how the clay from the hills literally built Athens, one brick at a time, and how people like the Berrys and Milton Holland brought black culture and success here to our area. See the buildings and settings that make Athens such a cultural melting pot and how neither trains nor floods could stop the brave hearted individuals that made Athens what it is today.
Many stories are told, sometimes with great humor, about how throughout our history there have been people willing to stand their ground and sometimes lay before trains to make their mark in the history books of Athens.
Copies are $28 plus tax and can be picked up Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 10am-4pm, Thursday, noon to 4:00pm or purchased online at athenshistory.org. Go to the “shop” tab at the top of the page.
