Archaeology Month Returns

Join us for a month of excellent programming during Archaeology Month!  We have partnered with Ohio University and Wayne National Forest this year to bring you 7 events that are sure to fascinate and educate.

Programs held at the Southeast Ohio History Center are:

Friday, October 14th, 5:30-6:30pm-  “Rockshelter Archaeology & Late Woodland Hunting Patterns: A View From Facing Monday Creek Rockshelter” with  Staci Spertzel Black of Heberling and Associates.

Tuesday, October 25th, 5:30-6:30pm– “Ohio’s Hopewell Culture: An Explosion of Art, Architecture and Ceremony” with  Dr. Bradley Lepper of the Ohio History Connection.  A reception will follow.

 

Programs being held at Ohio University are:

Monday, October 3rd,  6:00-7:00pm, Fourth floor of Baker Center- “Diggin Up the Past: 30 Years of OHIO Archaeology” with Dr. Elliot Abrams, Sociology & Anthropology Department.

Friday, October 14th, 1:30pm, Lounge in Baker Center- “OHIO Archaeology Field School Alumni Panel.”

Saturday, October 15th, 10:00am, “Alumni and Community Visit of Sites” Please note: This is an RSVP event so please contact the Ohio University for more information.

Thursday, October 20th, 5:30-6:30pm, Athens Uncorked- “Ancient People, Ancient Drinks: The Archaeology of Wine and Fermentation” with Dr. Ruth Palmer & Dr. Bill Owens, Classics & World Religions Department.

Saturday, October 22nd, 9:00-12:00pm–  Artifact Identification Day. Please contact Wayne National Forest for more information on how you can bring items to be identified and directions.
