IT’S OFFICIAL- The Athens County Historical Society and Museum will be moving to 24 W. State Street in early 2016!

We have secured a buyer for our current location at 65 N. Court Street so plans are proceeding with the renovation and move of ACHS&M to the 1st Christian Church location.

The Museum, Library and gift shop will continue to be open to the public through the holiday season.  We have a lot of wonderful seasonal displays along with the ever popular Gingerbread contest this year planned for December.

The Athens County Historical Society & Museum will sell the real property at 65 North Court Street, Athens, Ohio 45701, and all appurtenances situated thereon, by sealed bids submitted to Tom O’Grady, Executive Director, at 65 North Court Street, Athens, Ohio 45701, on or before the 30th dACHSM frontay of September, 2015, at four-thirty o’clock (4:30) p.m. with bid opening immediately thereafter. Notice on all bid envelopes should be as follows: “BID ON ACHS&M PROPERTY”.

Sale information bid packets may be obtained at the Museum office between the hours of 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, or at the Museum website: www.athenshistory.org

The property will not be sold for less than $650,000.00, with no buyer contingencies. All inspections and financing arrangements must be conducted and secured prior to the sale date. Any person interested in viewing, and or inspecting, the property should contact Donald Newell at 740.592.2280 Tuesday through Friday between the hours of 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.

The successful bidder will be required to pay a non-refundable bid deposit of ten percent (10%) of the successful bid amount, which will be forfeited in the event the successful bidder fails to purchase the property. The bid deposit must be paid by 12:00 p.m. on the day following the bid deadline. The bid deposit will be credited to the purchase price at closing.

The closing shall occur within thirty (30) days of the bid closing date unless, for cause, mutually extended. Possession shall be given to the successful bidder on or before one hundred and eighty (180) days of closing date, though immediate access for planning purposes shall be given to the successful bidder.

The doctrine of caveat emptor applies. The real estate is offered in “as is” condition, and there are no warranties of any kind expressed, implied or otherwise.
