This exhibit is the result of several individuals, working together, sharing ideas and considering how to express their history through textile art.

A segment of the artist’s life is shared in fabric and thread; a memoir of the daily occurrences that shaped who we are, the little things, the daily moments, the recurring routines and expectations, or a special occasion.

There are many ways to create a memoir. Participants began with leftover scraps and old unused household textiles to build a collage of shapes and colors that had the potential to become a story., Embroidery outlines and details the emerging story. This “slow stitching” process creates time to think and reflect and gives rise to questions such as: What stitch will help me create the moment I remember? or, how can I create texture to demonstrate the feelings of the memory? Then, to add depth, dimension and stability to the artwork, we continued to embroider, layering our design with an inner lining and backing creating a visual art to hang on the wall, to hold in your hands, or to create a page in a journal, to share with friends and family..
